“Persuasive Project Topic Request.”

After reviewing the Voxopop discussion, I would like to persuade people to to fan at a sporting event, become a chaperone, or become apart of dragon's produce. You may listen to my class’s discussion here (http://www.voxopop.com/group/1fa82b63-3a2b-467a-a46d-efca85728ccc).

First Persuasive Paragraph

At that age freshman are not mature enough to handle that much responsibility. Younger students are easily influenced by their peers and which at times it can get them into trouble. Students at that age are in need of supervision. Typically students around that age don't display responsibility and are often impulsive. Younger children can be easily preyed by predators. Transportation is big to them. They can’t drive so they have to take a bus. Freshmen have a habit of talking to those who offer them something or think that they are cool. I know that because I was like that. So no, I would not have received self passes. Self passes require of honesty, responsibility, and well matured.

"The Bass, the River, and Sheila Mant" and "Catch the Moon" Theme Comparison Essay

“I never made the same mistake again.” Luis had been watching the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. In both stories the young teenage boys liked a girl that they barley knew. In the story’s “The Bas, the “River and Sheila Mant” and “Catch the Moon” had something in common which was falling in love with a girl.

The main character in the story was Sheila Mant. Sheila Mant is a girl with long red wavy hair. When she put on that white dress she looked like an angel. She goes to the same school as he does but does not notice him. The main conflict in the story was when he had to choose between the girl and the bass fish. He chose the girl and cut the string to let the fish go. Letting the fish go haunted him all summer. He also said that there will always be more Sheila Mant’s on the world. He promised himself that he will never make the same mistake again.

The main character in the story is Luis. Luis is a young trouble maker that was sent to Juvenal Hall for trespassing an entering a old women's home. He is working at his uncle's junk yard for community service. The main conflict was when his mother died of being ill and didn’t know how to grieve his pain. The way he grieved was when he met a girl and she helped him keep his mind off his mind off his mother. He changed by becoming happier and helping others like helping her find a hubcap for her car. The theme was when he found the hubcap and gave it to her at her house.

My main point of the two story was that both characters liked a girl and had to find a way to build enough courage to speak to a girl to ask them out on a date. The main idea to me was that they both got to have that date and at least talk to the girls. One guy was able to have a friendship with one girl and the other guy had lost the girl because she left him for a guy with a car not a canoe. My final thought was even if they didn’t get the girl, there are always other fish in the sea.

“Catch the Moon” Grief Paragraph

Luis and the grief of his mothers death is not believable because he can't hide the grief for ever. Someday it will come out and he will break out into tears. In real life grief for people can be tragic. Some people take therapy or just keep it in and go home to cry. People can get eating disorders and tell themselves that they do not deserve to be in this world. In Luis's point he kept it in and cried in a car. He also covered his unhappiness and acted as if he was happy. That was called a cover up. In real life people try to cover it up but others can notice it by them putting more on themselves to keep themselves busy. By dealing with grief it can change a person but not dealing with grief cannot.

Homeroom Reform Essay

So many people are tired of learning the same old subjects the same way. There are so many better ways of learning a subject, especially if it includes a hands-on approach. It is time to start learning a new way instead of the old way. San Pasquale Academy is a place where many students are not that interested in school. They complain asking, “Why don’t we have any field trips?” Every time we try to plan one we end up having to cancel it because of the shortage of money. SPA is a school for foster youth who sleep in dorms on campus. This place is like any high school, but if only we could find better ways to learn. We would like to have is some money for field trips.

Our school math class could become better by having some field trips to math leagues or math competitions. In our school we have few students that understand math. We have about half our campus that are not at grade level when it comes to this subject. They say that they don’t understand why math is so important, especially geometry, because we just learn about shapes. English classes can take trips to plays and poetry readings. Science classes can take field trips to aquariums, zoos, and the observatory. Our history classes can take field trips to museums and historical sites. These trips need money for transportation, tour costs, and possible food costs. All these trips will help students to become more interested in school.

By looking at my own experiences and going on field trips that interested me, I have become more interested in certain subjects. I have more understanding and now perform better in these subjects. Also by listening to other kids it helped me to write down their opinions and understand what might motivate them. We want to motivate the students of SPA the same way I was motivated by these field trips. For me it was a lot better to understand when I am working on hands-on projects. I can have a better understanding in what I am doing. When I see students work, I can see how much better they do when they have some one help them along the way.

This project will spark motivation in the students of SPA. Motivated students will perform better in class and will participate in more classroom activities. With having better students there will be better grades. Another way this project may help SPA is helping the teachers to inspire students and become more creative.

This project will be beneficial to students education of SPA. Students need to be inspired to motivate them to become better in certain subjects. When I went on field trips I was able to ask questions and understand what the meaning of all these subjects were. When I am in front watching or hands on it makes a better impact on me. I know it will make a better impact on others as well.
