When people go home they are stuck in some kind of traffic whether it was a flight delay or freeway traffic. On the other hand Odysseus is a mortal man living at the same time as the Greek Gods. Odysseus had to go through a ten year delay in order to go home to get to his wife Penelope. On Odysseus journey, in the “Odyssey” by Homer, he proves that cunning and sacrifices where great aids on his way back home.
Odysseus proves that he was the most wise and strongest out of all his men that joined him on his journey. For example, when Odysseus tricked the Cyclops in thinking that his real name was “Nobody”. This showed that the trick he pulled on the Cyclops was a great trick of cunning because it saves most of his men. This also shows that not only being smart saved his life but it also helped him get things done and solve problems. In addition Odysseus was able to finish his journey and get back home to his wife although he was disguised as a beggar. This shows that when Odysseus got home his disguise as a beggar was cunning in helping him to find out what was going on and if the people around him were still here for him and not the suitors. This also shows that him dressing as a beggar helped him find who were true and loyal to him compared to those who were just trying to be with his wife.
Odysseus was smart and his cunning paid off big time in winning back his household.
Odysseus proves that sacrifice was a huge help in his journey back home. He knew that those sacrifices would be hard for him. For example, when Odysseus had to sacrifice his men in order to get back home. This shows that he would have done anything to get back to his wife but he didn’t want to lose his men at the same time. His men were eaten from flesh to bone till there was nothing left of them by Cyclops and the Charybdis. In addition, he sacrificed his physical affairs with the Circe to go back home to his loving wife Penelope. This shows that Penelope was the women that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. This also shows that his love for his wife Penelope was what he wanted and would give up anything to go back to her. All the sacrifices that he went through were helpful even if one of them could have destroyed his relationship with his faithful wife.
Odysseus was able to make it home safely thanks to his cunning and the sacrifices that he made although they were not always exactly what he wanted. Odysseus was a human just like modern people so having to make decisions and mistakes on his journey back home was an everyday thing. The Odyssey was a mythological epic about Odysseus journey home and all the challenges along the way. What he had to do and give up getting home and seeing his wife Penelope once more. To hold her and never allow her go through that again.
